About

The Nurse Break

Starting in 2019 by full-time Registered Nurse Jackson Heilberg, The Nurse Break (TNB) has rapidly and organically become Australia’s largest and most popular free open-access nursing blog.

The Nurse Break was started because

There is so much lived experience that should be captured, shared and learnt from.

Nurses make up the majority of health professionals, yet are often the silent majority, so The Nurse Break is a platform that allows for sharing of experience and breaking down of public and societal misconceptions about the diverse role of a nurse.

We work in multi-disciplinary teams, yet often are poorly informed about the context within which our colleagues work in, what they do and how we can work better together.

The Nurse Break is for EVERY nurse and midwife in Australia…

The Nurse Break offers you content for all nurses and midwives from students through to Directors or Nursing and Professors on the one website. We have categorised articles and content based on interest and topic. This has its benefits as it allows you to not only seek interesting content that you KNOW interests you already, but have the opportunity to explore content that you DIDN’T KNOW interests you.

The amazing thing about nursing and midwifery careers having interviewed hundreds of clinicians; most have such varied careers that they end up ‘ticking’ multiple categories. For example, one nurse might have started in general ward nursing, then transitioned to mental health, then moved into ICU, then into education, then became a flight nurse, then became a NUM etc….As a result, The Nurse Break allows people’s diverse careers to be captured and categorised quite neatly so it’s easy for you to find and read about people’s career’s in one spot.

With 10K+ monthly visitors and an audience from across Australia and even internationally, you have joined an amazing community solely focused on bettering the profession of nursing and midwifery in Australia.
